The Center for Spirituality and the Arts (CSA) was an interfaith spiritual arts center run by CCVI Sisters from 1991 to 2005. It repurposed the former Motherhouse dairy barn as an art gallery, performing arts venue, and community space. ReBarn’s mission was to “foster a contemplative attitude toward life by affirming and encouraging the creative spirit that resides in each individual. The Center created an environment that allowed persons of all faiths to explore and experience the relationship between art and spirituality.”

El Centro para la Espiritualidad y las Artes (CSA) fue un centro espiritual interreligioso gestionado por las Hermanas CCVI entre 1991 y 2005. Reutilizó el antiguo establo de la Casa Madre como galería de arte, sala de espectáculos y espacio comunitario. La misión de ReBarn era «fomentar una actitud contemplativa hacia la vida, afirmando y alentando el espíritu creativo que reside en cada individuo». El centro creó un entorno que permitía a personas de todas las creencias explorar y experimentar la relación entre el arte y la espiritualidad.

The story of ReBarn / Center for Spirituality and the Arts cannot be told without acknowledging the contributions of Sister Alice Holden, CCVI (1935 - 2026). As ReBarn’s Director, Program Coordinator, and Spiritual Director (from 1992 to 2005), Sister Alice was the heartbeat of the Center. She led poetry readings and T’ai Chi Chih classes, coordinated capital improvement projects, and oversaw the Center’s many programmatic efforts. Sister invited community members from all walks of life to the Center in an effort to bring harmony to the diverse San Antonio community.
Upon the Center’s closing, Sister Alice remarked, “Most significant for me, I think, is the individuals whose lives turned around because they found a deep meaning in their own faith, in themselves, and in God. And they found that through art and through workshops and through spiritual direction.” Sister Alice continued to lead retreats and T’ai Chi Chih classes after her 12-year tenure at the Center. She also remained involved with the SPARKS (Spiritual practices and the Arts Reclaiming Knowledge of the Soul) and InterfaithINC (UIW Retreat and Conference Center) ministries.

La historia de ReBarn / Centro para la Espiritualidad y las Artes no puede contarse sin reconocer las contribuciones de la hermana Alice Holden, CCVI (nacida en 1935). Como directora, coordinadora de programas y directora espiritual de ReBarn (de 1992 a 2005), la hermana Alice fue el corazón del centro. Dirigió recitales de poesía y clases de T'ai Chi Chih, coordinó proyectos de mejora de capital y supervisó las numerosas iniciativas programáticas del centro. La hermana invitó al centro a miembros de la comunidad de todos los ámbitos de la vida, en un esfuerzo por traer armonía a la diversa comunidad de San Antonio.
